If there was a chance earth was going to be wiped out by an asteroid, wouldn’t you want to know?

The U.S. government decides to keep this possibility under wraps as they recruit the world’s best oil driller, Harry Stamper (Willis). Using a design of a drill Harry created, paired with a nuclear bomb, would break up the asteroid enough that its remains would avoid a catastrophe on earth.

NASA needs Harry to join their team that will travel to the asteroid and destroy it; but Harry needs a team who he trusts and knows can work the drill. NASA compromises to bring on seven extra money, who are a group of misfits, and squeezes in astronaut training in less than 10 days. If this mission goes wrong, it will lead to the end of humanity.

Armageddon is set up to be a disaster movie with an all-star cast, directed and written by big names. It’s obviously a Michael Bay movie because there are a ridiculous amount of explosions happening within the first 10 minutes of the movie. While Cloverfield and Star Wars: The Force Awakens director, J.J. Abrams, helps make the movie as intense as it can be.

Being a sci-fi disaster movie, Armageddon is super cheesy but there is never a dull moment. This movie is filled with action: from the fiery balls of meteor destroying parts of New York City in the beginning to the crisis that everyone might die in space when they land on the asteroid. Among the cheesy factor is the side-plot of Harry disapproving of one of his team member’s being in love with his daughter.

This movie is not a masterpiece but it sure will take you for a ride with the asteroid’s impending doom.
