As Captain America adjusts to the 21st century -iPods, credit cards, demi-gods included!- he must face an old threat that put him under ice over 70 years ago.
Steve Rogers (Evans) teams up with Black Widow (Johansson) as two of the only S.H.I.E.L.D. agents who know their organization is in big trouble. The terrorist group known as Hydra has resurfaced and they’re after a mass termination of anyone in their way. Rogers and Widow recruit an ex-soldier to stop Hydra and battle a super soldier called the Winter Soldier.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier delves into the Marvel universe when S.H.I.E.L.D. is compromised by Hydra. For first timers into the Marvel movies, Captain America is a fun, action packed thriller, but for those who have been following, it promises a deeper look into Captain America’s world. What makes it fun is that the Captain isn’t alone in this movie. Director Nick Fury (Jackson) makes a return and Black Widow is a great partner. She’s not a sidekick but an Avenger, who can kick butt and is a genius when it comes to hacking the network.
The Winter Soldier adds depth to the story as viewers get into his background. Hydra had the same serum that was used on the Captain and they experimented with it on World War II soldiers, which is how the Winter Soldier came about. His strength is one to rival the Captain’s and as the two fight each other it shows that Captain America may be the one to go down.
If anyone has been following the television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., this Captain America movie is a good companion for season one as they both deal with Hydra. This movie is full of action and thrills as the Captain returns to face something unexpected from his past.
