With the impending series 3 of Sherlock to air soon (and go on another 2-year hiatus after three weeks), Benedict Cumberbatch has most notably become a rising star in the past year. In 2013 alone, he acted in six films. Plus he voiced two characters on a Simpsons episode. What a busy man!
Cumberbatch appeared on Time’s international cover. A preview of his interview with Time can be found here. Something a few Cumberbatch fans may have overlooked is his role as Martin Crieff, captain for MJN air on the radio series “Cabin Pressure“. It’s a really hilarious show following two pilots, a steward and his mum who owns the charter plane. Each episode is titled after a city and the series will end after they find the time to do “Zurich”. The show was nominated for best scripted comedy and best scripted comedy drama for the 2014 Audio Drama Awards.
His notable films of 2013 were Star Trek: Into Darkness where he played villain Khan, Julian Assange in The Fifth Estate, and two roles as a dragon and necromancer in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. He also appeared in a sure to be nominated film 12 Years a Slave and in August: Osage County which highlights Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts as the leads.
Sherlock season 3 airs on PBS January 19, at 10pm after Downton Abbey. The first two episodes have already aired in the U.K. and so far, the episodes have not been disappointing.
